The reason I ask is my nan had a hardly used front room and daily used sitting room. Family rooms are more relaxed spaces, and tend to be more kid-friendly. Living rooms are often in the front of the house, near the entry way, and living rooms are more likely used to entertain guests on more formal occasions. Our house is the odd one out on our street as we have a dining room at the front and our living room faces the garden. Sometimes it’s connected to the dining room.
